The Forge

And the Blacksmith

I can see the angles of your form

Lodged inside the molten metal,

Banging on it's orange-white surface.

What an affronting sound,

The last pitted effort of the soul

Attempting to escape the custom shackles

Built out of metal and spite and grief.

I am used to this sound.

.

The Blacksmith of Dreams

Would be rubbish if he couldn't

Pick out the whispering plea

Of the soul inside the metal cage.

I am good at my job but better

At choosing the fate of foolish men.

Are you ready, I wonder,

To receive the final shaping blow

And succumb to the future I've made?

Wow, wow, wow! I just discovered your profile and decided to jump into a quick poem. I will absolutely be back for more! I was drawn to this piece by the title. As someone who feels like they've been put through life's fiery crucible (especially in recent years), this theme immediately resonated with me. The sheer emotion in each line is powerful, the metaphors for how strife and trauma shape us are spot-on, and the ending is an absolute mic-drop. Very excited to read more of your work!

Subtract everything that does not belong, and what remains will be a work of art. You make something of a jailer of the smith here: what is liberated from the cage of iron must do as said smith wills. You've forged a paradox of your own, that lingers in the mind. Well wrought!

This is intense and beautifully crafted! The imagery of the Blacksmith of Dreams is striking—a mix of artistry and control, shaping destiny with molten resolve. A haunting reflection on choice and consequence—well done! :)
