The Extra Mile

Still you couldn’t love me like I loved you

The Extra Mile

I ran that extra mile for you.

My feet heavy, my breath torn.

Still, your eyes were stone,

still, your hands held nothing for me.

I gave you hours that burned from my skin.

The silence swallowed all my songs.

You looked away

as if the world was brighter elsewhere,

you never saw how I lit my own sky for you.

I asked the night for mercy,

but the stars would not answer.

They knew what I refused to see,

that love cannot be carved from absence.

I broke my voice against your walls.

My words fell like rain on cold glass.

You stayed dry and untouched,

while I drowned in what I carried.

I thought devotion could bend the tide,

but the water kept its course.

The river ran away from me,

and you let it go without a word.

I ran that extra mile for you.

My body a prayer you never read.

Still, I could not make you love me,

and now I walk alone with nothing but truth.

You've really captured the ache of giving everything and realising love can’t be forced. Beautifully written, even in its heartbreak. 💔
