The Essence of Love and Divine Presence
A Timeless Ghazal by Saadi Shirazi

Saadi Shirazi, one of Persia’s greatest poets, masterfully captures the essence of divine love and unity in this ghazal. His words reflect a deep spiritual connection, where joy and sorrow, life and death, all stem from a single source—an omnipresent divine force. This poem is a reminder of the beauty in surrender, the sweetness in hardship, and the eternal presence of the beloved in every moment of existence.
🌿 I rejoice in this world, for the world rejoices in Him.
I love all of existence, for all exists through Him.
Seize the morning breath, O friend, like Jesus’ grace,
Perhaps a lifeless heart revives, for that breath is from Him.
Neither the heavens possess Him, nor the angels claim,
Yet within the core of humankind, His presence remains.
I would sweetly drink poison if my beloved serves it,
I would endure pain willingly, for the cure is from Him.
What difference does sorrow or joy make to the wise?
Pour me the wine of rapture, for even grief is from Him.
