The Earth and the Universe
A Dialogue on Humanity's Future written in 2021
Earth:
I am a jewel, spun in cosmic dance,
A blue-green orb, where life's a chance.
Yet, my children, humans, they ponder and muse,
Should they leave me for Mars, in cosmic cruise?
Universe:
Oh Earth, so vibrant, a living art,
Why would they leave? What's in their heart?
Is it not enough, your mountains high,
Your oceans deep, your endless sky?
Earth:
They litter my seas with plastic's blight,
They cut my forests, dim my light.
They seek new worlds, perhaps to start anew,
Fleeing the mess they've made, not knowing what to do.
Universe:
But Earth, you hold treasures, unseen by their eyes,
The dance of seasons, the stars' surprise.
Tell them, dear Earth, of your worth,
Of the beauty they've known since their birth.
Earth:
I whisper in winds, in rivers' flow,
In the silent night, in the sun's warm glow.
Yet, they dream of Mars, red and stark,
A planet silent, under the sun's stark.
Universe:
Then show them, Earth, your resilience, your might,
How you heal, recover, in the dark of night.
Teach them to cherish, to mend, to care,
For no planet like you, is anywhere out there.
Earth:
I'll send them storms, I'll send them rain,
I'll show them beauty, I'll show them pain.
Perhaps they'll learn, before they depart,
That home is here, in my nurturing heart.
Universe:
And if they go, let them remember,
The Earth's sweet song, in September.
That while Mars might call, with its silent charm,
Their true home is Earth, in her nurturing arms.
Earth:
So here I wait, with open arms,
Hoping they'll see, avoiding Earth's harms.
For in this vast universe, so wide and far,
There's no place like Earth, under any star.
