The Dragon in Me
For the FB group Vocal * Voices in Minor

The dragon in me exists in a vault of fire.
Propelled by magic,
protected by shimmering scales of resistance.
Soft enough to soothe a soul.
Wise enough to open a mind.
Hard enough to crush a will.
The dragon in me was born of assuredness,
but lived in contradiction.
The voice of a songbird.
The roar of a lion.
Birthed long before I wailed my first cry,
or stumbled my first step
toward my destiny of genetics.
Passed on with a love as genuine and fierce
as a mother to her cubs.
The dragon in me lives on
so long as I walk the earthly plain
on which I was planted.
The dragon walks with me
To soothe my soul, to open my mind,
and sometimes, if even unintentionally,
to crush my will.
The dragon lives forever, in my heart of fire,
for it is the dragon who made me
The tiger that I am.

The year of the dragon shapes "The Eye of the Tiger"! And what a fiercely firesome combination.
