The Day the Alien Came to Earth
I'd take them to the place where they would find the greatest connection
It's my turn; Welcome to Earth!
I have a miracle to show you
That's the only way to describe this- it's true!
A gift of inestimable worth.

We are fragile people; relying on breath,
We can't breathe water or fly through air
Can't read minds (well maybe we don't dare)
And all of us know that one day we'll meet Death.

Please, though, follow me into this House of Pain,
Where gathers bodies and minds in turmoil; bruised
And down this hall, among rooms with hope suffused
While dreams, plans, and love now push and strain.

All over our world, not just in this place,
Daily gather humans, who although finite
Ride the tearing of their bodies with purposeful might
Awaiting the filling of their arms and that first embrace.

Our fragile race, which to you may appear unruly (WILD!)
Our time here is short and we're stunningly mortal
Our spirits yearn to connect with ALL, to find the portal
Our spirits and dreams are renewed when we hold a just-born child.
*
We send our rockets and satellites out from this world
While wise voices remind us to learn from our past
One step forward, two steps back; how long will we last?
This newest one, like you, into our world has been hurled.

This poem was written in response to a Vocal prompt: What would I show an alien that arrived on Earth to show them the beauty and wonder of our planet.
To me- the drive to continue to procreate, and rejoice in each new finite life, is unique. Humble, terrifying, brave.

This is spot on, Judey! Because you've hit upon something that is so uniquely human - that happens to everyone - in its many different forms. I love the amount of pride, joy and admiration you have poured into this. Just, bravo! To answer your questions...I think C-section would fascinate them, because c-sections are endlessly fascinating and a drug-free natural birth would impress the aliens, especially if they were more advanced, because to them it might seem very rudimental.
A baby always brings a smile to my face. Good choice.
