A lifetime of pain, sorrow, suffering, and misery has left her feeling empty.
Because she knows that some don't find her worthwhile.
Can she overcome everything that life keeps throwing at her?
Drowning beneath the water she opens her eyes to see the light above her.
Echoes of a past with taunting voices surround her.
Finally, realizes that her happiness has to come from within herself.
Gradually, she swims to the water's surface, towards the light that holds such promise.
Hope...that's all she has to cling to and that is her life preserver.
"I can fight through my demons and trudge through this water." She says to herself as she swims steadily to the surface.
Just before she reaches the water's surface, she receives another blow. Life grabs her and tries to pull her down again, down to the depths.
"Keep on fighting," she says through gritted teeth as she pushes and fights her way through.
Losing for her is not an option as there is something in her that just won't let go; something that won't allow her to let go.
Must she always be drug back down to the depths though? Why is this so hard?
Now, she learns to stand on her own two feet above the surface.
Only time will tell if she makes it out alive. This earth is cruel and her mind is plagued with demons.
Possibilities unfold before her but the darkness still chases her.
"Quiet mind! Hush you pesky demons!" She hisses.
Rejection and denial are two of her biggest fears. She wonders if she will ever be enough.
"Stop everything you're doing and just,...breathe." She tells herself.
The voices in her mind from her past quiet if only for a moment.
Understanding comes from the back of her mind and the pit in her stomach eases.
Very slowly she starts to heal, taking time for herself and listening to the gentle signs that her body gives her.
"What do you need?" she asks the young girl inside of her who never had enough.
X-ray her heart and you will see that there is love to give; there is so much it's bursting at the seams.
You will never understand her. She is as complex as they come; she doesn't even understand herself at times.
Zealous and eager to see all the world has to offer though she keeps putting herself out there even when it steals her breath away from the fear of it all.
About the Creator
Lindsey Altom
For me, writing runs in the blood. I've written songs, poems and short stories ever since I was a little girl. I mostly like to write about my life experiences mixed with a little fiction or just things that come off the top of my head!

Great job with the ABC poem, but also the soul of your words. Truly loved it!
