At Doctor's Office

At the doctor’s office,

I am tense.

She asks, “Why so?”

Don’t you know?

The bill you will give

will bankrupt us.

I hate things

that makes my spouse’s wallet thinner.

I am dependent,

and I loathe it,

dwindling his savings,

While probing my teeth,

she talks to her assistant:
