The Color of Difference

Blue waves, a tide crashing over me

Purple bruises that the world has left to see

My family judging my sexuality

Why can’t the world just let me be?

I want to bask in golden contentment

But my world is grey from stagnant resentment

Did any of us ask to be born?

Why is sexuality a flag to be worn?

We walk and we march in vibrant shades

But the blue assault us in bloody red raids.

Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet

Why does fighting for rights subject us to violence?

Allegedly raped for lifestyles of our choosing

but why does that warrant any kind of abusing?

Our rainbow friends have a right to fight ignorance

So why are we judged for the colors of our difference?
