The City

A Sonnet

Just a few of my feelings expressed as a short sonnet.

At the moment I am feeling that I should not be sharing my work, but that will change.

The song is the inspirational "City Of Dreams" by The Talking Heads.

You Built Their City

You Built It So Well

You Made Them Happy

They Had Tales To Tell

๐Ÿก๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿก

The Walls Were Built High

The Roads Were So Straight

The Rooves Kept Them Dry

And They Did Not Wait

๐Ÿก๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿก

This City Was For Them

It Was Always Theirs

For Them And Their Friends

They Would Never Share

๐Ÿก๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿก

Their Thanks Without Doubt

Was To Lock You Out

I've been in this situation so many times. Sending you lots of love and hugs โค๏ธ

  • This makes me think of the song "We Built This City" by Starship (a song which I've always loved, making my wife roll her eyes for how very insipid it is). The utter ingratitude of so many once they have what they want.

Well said. I think we all feel locked out at times.

    Melancholy but exquisitely written!!!๐Ÿ’•โ™ฅ๏ธโ™ฅ๏ธ
