The Christmas Bridge
Discovering the Gift Beyond the Wrapping.
Hey, open your eyes and tell me you’ve seen
That you’ve seen beyond the gifts, the wrapping, the lights
That you’ve seen beyond the stockings, the cookies, and milk tonight
Hey, open your eyes and tell me you’ve seen
The star that rose in the East, shining bright
The greatest gift, made by the Father, given to guide us to the light
Say you’ve seen it, say you understand
That in a world without a way, heading straight to the abyss, in a flash
God built a bridge to heaven, starting from a humble crèche
Say you understand
That the greatest gift didn’t come wrapped, placed beneath a tree to entice
The greatest gift wasn’t wrapped—it was nailed—and the tree was a cross
Today, angels are lost among elves
The price and the value switch shelves
And even when we have all we desire, it never suffices
In a world where joy is tangible, and happiness is what most entices
It’s the red of the wrapping against the red that was shed
It’s the blinking lights against the still heart that bled
The lavish feast while worship runs dry
Fireworks and cheers for a goal scored at the final moment
Yet silence for the sacrifice made at thirty-three
But what about you?
Have you opened your eyes? Can you truly see?
Christmas is not Santa’s day, nor is it just a time for receiving gifts
Christmas is not simply the birth of Jesus—no
Christmas is the first chapter of the great plan of Reconciliation
Because Jesus wasn’t just a man, a prophet
Jesus was a bridge, built to connect us—the creation
To God, the Creator
And if your eyes are open, and you’ve already seen,
Then help those who haven’t yet seen it.
