The Changing Face of Luna
Prose poem - Letters to the Moon

Dearest Luna, I hear your sigh as you slip to sleep, the starlight snuffed out, the world awakening.
My friend, before you rest today, I want to thank you. Just as your phases change your appearance, they also alter the night sky. From a full moon of brilliance to a sliver next to Venus, your beauty is stunning. You glowed in a quarter phase over the Serengeti, casting dappled light on grazing antelope as hyenas and lions roamed.
While we quietly sailed the peaceful waters near Nadi in the South Pacific, you stayed hidden, allowing us to see the Southern Cross.
So many long nights in Alaska, you gleamed above me, competing with the Aurora. It was a friendly competition. You beamed, then hid behind the green and pink veils. As they swirled to the side, you smiled at me, sometimes winking as a cloud swooped by.
Snuggle beneath your pearl and sapphire celestial blanket as mighty Sol dims your light. The early dawn waves good morning to me, calling me to its warmth, but I only long for your moonlight and its ever-changing glow. I will end this letter as I draw the shades. Winged choirs are harmonizing, competing for a choral prize. I must finish here; I feel that I'm drifting off to sleep while the sun warms the landscape.
