The past, a weight upon my soul,
Shackles forged from years untold.
Each moment, a link in the chain,
Binding me to joys and pain.
~ ~ ~
I try to break free, to find release,
But the pull of the past refuses cease.
The mistakes I've made, the tears I've cried,
Linger on, like the ebbing tide.
~ ~ ~
The regrets that haunt my waking hours,
The fears that blossom like poisoned flowers.
The sorrows that shadow my every step,
A tapestry of grief, forever wept.
~ ~ ~
I long to leave these chains behind,
To unburden this weary, troubled mind.
To step into the light, unbowed, unbound,
And find the peace that has yet to be found.
~ ~ ~
But the past, it clings with unyielding might,
Whispering doubts, casting shadows of night.
It tells me I'm forever trapped, forever flawed,
That I can never break free, can never be awed.
~ ~ ~
Still, I fight against these voices of despair,
Determined to breathe the fresh, untainted air.
To shed the manacles of yesterday's woe,
And embrace the promise of where I may go.
~ ~ ~
For I know that within me burns a flame,
A spark of strength that defies the blame.
A glimmer of hope, a kernel of light,
That can guide me through the darkest night.
~ ~ ~
So I gather my courage, steel my resolve,
And vow to break free, to finally evolve.
To leave the chains of yesterday behind,
And find the freedom my soul so yearns to find.
~ ~ ~
One by one, I'll shatter the links that bind,
Reclaiming the peace I've long left behind.
I'll forge a new path, a new way to be,
Unburdened by the weight of history.
~ ~ ~
The road may be long, the journey hard,
But I'll face each challenge, stand ever-prepared.
For the promise of freedom, the chance to soar,
Is worth the struggle, worth fighting for.
~ ~ ~
So I'll carry on, with head held high,
Knowing that the chains of yesterday will die.
They may linger, they may try to hold me fast,
But I'll break free, and find my way at last.
~ ~ ~
The past may haunt, the future may fear,
But in the present, I'll find solace here.
I'll embrace the now, the endless chance,
To write a new story, to take a new stance.
~ ~ ~
The chains of yesterday, they'll fade away,
Replaced by the freedom I've won today.
I'll walk this path, unbound and unafraid,
For the future is mine, and it cannot be swayed.
~ ~ ~
So let the past lie, let it rest in peace,
For in this moment, my soul finds release.
The chains are broken, the shackles undone,
And I, at last, can bask in the warmth of the sun.
