There once was a caterpillar who sat in a chair
He came out every morning to enjoy the fresh air
An umbrella, refreshments, and a hat were just right
He sat through the day and into the night
But then there was an evening, as the sun began to fade
When the caterpillar looked up and became very afraid
A speck, now a spot, a shadow was circling down
“It was such a nice day” the caterpillar said with a frown
It was a bird the caterpillar had no doubt about that
He was scared but determined as he put on his hat
He grasped his umbrella albeit not a cloud in the sky
This caterpillar was smart and upon that he would rely
The caterpillar opened the umbrella proudly and displayed what was there
It was the face of a lion with its sharp teeth plainly bared
Then the caterpillar roared fiercely, he would make this bird pay
And with that the bird turned and flew quickly away
The caterpillar looked longingly at his favorite chair
He took a deep breath of that cool night air
Yes, he decided it was about time for him to go in
To eat and to sleep and to wait for tomorrow to begin
And when the caterpillar wakes up once more
He will grab his umbrella as he heads out of the door
The sun is shining, and there was time to spare
For this caterpillar to enjoy sitting in his chair
End
