The Campaign

Some Free Verse

If politics becomes mere entertainment

Along with everything else

The temptation germinates and rapidly grows to vote

For the strangest, most dangerous possibility

Just because of morbid curiosity

The favorite hors d'oeuvre of the death drive:

“I don’t know; all of this is sort of crazy and stupid anyway…let’s see what happens next.”

Be careful

Everything is not a mere fiction

A spectacle for our diversion and titillation

Reality is not television

If you treat life like a disgusting, bizarre spectacle

That is exactly what it will become

Not just for those hapless players on the screen

For you and yours

Proceed with caution

Things are about to get real

Oh, D.K.. I feel the warning here so ominously. Be careful who you pick for your leaders. Unsettling times. Great poetical invective.
