The Calm Before

It only lasts a moment

Storms roll in, ragged and rumbling,

Inundating my senses.

Luxurious in their darkness,

Ebony emissaries of August's impending end.

Nearer they creep, and all grows quiet.

Calm reigns momentarily, to be shattered by

Explosions of light, sound and precious moisture.

The calm before the storm…I particularly liked “Ebony emissaries of August's impending end.” as a line. Something about the imagery, and the connection we naturally make to summer’s end.

There is something so stilling about this for me, Dana! I'm a sucker for a good storm but also the peace that comes just before (occasionally after too). Well played, my friend!

Love a storm. But then, in the UK our storms are seldom catastrophic.

This perfectly describes that eerie feeling before the storm. Well done, my friend.
