The Bullies

A childhood

By Ruth StewartPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

When the monsters are real,

and they live in your house

and nothing is worse

than your mum and her spouse

*

when the light isn't safe

and the dark isn't, too

and just to survive

is the best you can do

*

the creepy sounds

that fill you with dread,

they come from the lounge

not under the bed.

*

when you don't have control

and your power is gone

you know that the truth is

you've done nothing wrong

*

when you live every day,

never giving up hope

that there will be a rescue

Cos you know you can't cope...

Love the reflection of the emotions that come through here, even if consuming. A fitting and eye-catching image to match! 😊

I love this and I'd like to reference it in a story / poem thing I'm writing because it fits so perfectly, if that's OK? Thanks for writing this.

This made me sad, angry, furious, sad, tearful and angry and sad and the cycle continues. Because I know how real this was for you. You're getting a hug when you come home. Well written, hon and although it's a tough read, it's better for not pulling any punches and not sugarcoating stuff! xxxx
