Give your rights away, hand them over in defense of murder

with a turned back, through the bedroom door,

at the driver's side window;

the story doesn't matter. The thugs fall under the same umbrella,

their faces masked or blurred. The victims and locations build

an ever-growing list that you form excuses for.

Never mind the freedom you claim to love,

never mind the law of the land;

you can't believe in that and support this law enforcement.

The loyalty feels good, doesn't it?

You get to be part of something from afar,

bitter the way you want, laughing at the death of your enemies:

people of color, women, children, the libs,

hidden behind a screen believing you are safe

as you hand it all over, every right you've ever had

because the boot tastes so good,

and if you keep it on your tongue, you might just keep it from your neck.

    Thank you for writing and sharing this. An orphaned child hearing the government who shot their mother now maligning her mother - it sort of broke me this morning.

    Gritty, confrontational, powerful and real. This is the kind of message we need to keep spreading. The world is in a scary place right now and it's so necessary we all stand together. I can feel the anger in every word, so so so we'll written, congrats on getting a shout out on raise your voice thread, not sure why this isn't top story.

    Excellent commentary and social critique. This feels scathing and accurate according to what I’ve seen of the people who play apologist for fascism. Also, bootlicker is one of my all time favorite descriptors for that crowd, and you put it to great use. Love this one

    I am at a loss and have been for too long. This is so important to keep speaking about. To keep forcibly objecting to the horrors that are happening every day. I cannot find common ground with people that think this is ok. Thank you for speaking up today :)
