I understand the brevity of human life.

It pales in comparison to the longevity of the earth, the moon, stars, and the galaxy.

Long before arriving pushed into the world from our mothers’ wombs and surrounded in light; it’s all here.

Long after departing, pulled from the world into our own wood boxes and surrounded in darkness; it’s all here.

Legions of us will perish before its life, barely begins to wane.

And even after we’ve taken our leave, it will be gradual in its time to halt.

Therefore, I believe I can say I understand the brevity of human life.

The fact that it’s frightfully diminutive in comparison to that of the universe.

The fact that others’ lives along numerous other things will move on once we have departed.

Given these facts, it’s true, we ought to and should indeed enjoy life while alive.

We’ve only beheld a handful of sunrises and sunsets when the world has others to offer.

We’ve only cultivated a handful of meaningful connections when the world offers up 7.7 billion.

We’ve hardly scratched the surface of all we can experience-

Granted an allotted time to live

Granted an allotted time to die

-yet seemingly possessing a minute time to witness it all.

Therefore, yes, I wholeheartedly understand the brevity of human life.

Make no mistake about that.

Because in spite of that, I desire to abridge my own.

Right now, at this exact moment
