The birds cease to sing

A song so sweet would be lost forever

The birds cease to sing

If the birds should cease to sing,

Silence will settle like a lingering thing.

No morning calls, no feathered notes,

Just the echo of thoughts my mind promotes.

I will know only what dwells inside,

Memories like rivers, thoughts that collide.

No lark to lift a hidden tune,

No dove to mourn beneath the moon.

The world would hush, the branches still,

And I would walk with quiet will.

For if the birds no longer sing,

I’ll hear only the songs that silence brings.

This is a poem that reminds us what a Silent Spring would be like. Good job.

How empty the world would be without the songs of birds! Beautifully tragic poem
