The Birder

Poem by Shannon Farrell

By shannon farrellPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I am an honorary bird.

I sit amongst them

and watch as they dot the green forest

with bursts of yellow, red and blue

hue's of hope

A red cardinal observes a bird feeder

over run with blue chickadee's

and a goldfinch calls somewhere in the brush

Come winter time

a splash of purple finch and the

orange glow of a mergansers crown

will be added to my symphony of colour

These birds

and the forest around them

have formed themselves

into some natural banner of pride for me

All its bright tones

on the backs of my dear friends

in the tree's

Nature herself contributes

her own green flourish

I am an honorary bird

my heart is wrapped in rainbow plumage

nature poetry
