The Aid of Lemons
For all of the woman who have lived life even if it wasn't guaranteed.
On that day,
The stream you waded in reminded me of our fluidity,
Like the cosmos in full bloom swaying from cool winds,
As the water trickled upon your chest next to your heart,
It evaporated quickly over your golden skin,
And I realized even if seasons change my love wouldn't
On that day,
We climbed up trunks to reach a sweet reward of fruits,
They told us when we grow up that colors would dull and turn sour,
That only made me gaze into your iris with more adoration,
Making the memory of drinking lemonade with you more refreshing,
And I realized even if seasons change my love wouldn't
On that day,
We found out that beauty can be a double-edged sword,
As my vision focused on the earthworms I stumbled and scraped my knee,
You came to me like light shining through holes in the leaves,
Telling me "Everything will be alright", and I still believe it,
And I realized even if seasons change my love wouldn't
On that day,
I saw the color from your body turn flush as your foliage fell
On that day,
I saw you unanimated like the pine trees after a winter storm
On that day,
I saw your roots capture fresh soil and seeds gaining new life in me
On that day,
I grieved and watered the flowers of your spirit with my tears
On that day,
I realized even if seasons change my love wouldn't
