The After
When we pulled away,
the air was different—
heavier, yet lighter,
as though the universe
had exhaled with us.
We did not speak.
We did not need to.
But I carried that moment
like a fragile crystal
all through the summer heat,
terrified it might shatter,
praying it would not fade.
