The 10 Year Mile

An Ongoing Love Story

By XelPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Oh how funny life is…

How people come and go

and then,

Come again.

I remember the first time that I saw you.

Black shirt,

Black pants,

Black skin.

Time stopped and I feared that we would never meet again.

Oh how funny life is…

How two people could never speak,

barely meet,

but the feeling is…

engraved.

Ten years later, I tell you hello and wonder if you even remember my name.

It’s funny…

Isn’t it?

How time really is not distance at all,

If anything,

time is the greatest measure of love.

Ten years ago I saw your face

and I did not speak until today…

but the feeling is the same.

I knew then,

As much as I know now.

However,

back then,

I didn’t understand why

or how.

How someone so opposite of me

could fill…

everything.

Every void and every white noise.

When did I fall in love?

Well,

I never really had a choice.

It’s funny… isn’t it?

It’s way more than a feeling.

The way you smell,

The way my body fits on top of yours,

like a shell.

The rhythm of our breathing,

instantly in sync.

It’s funny how it’s been ten years of distance,

Yet it feels like I haven’t missed a thing.

So now I lay here…

And I look into your eyes,

Trying not cry.

I am scared that one day,

I will wake up wondering, once again,

How and why.

Why did you leave?

And how will I get you back.

This love is the only thing I know to go a ten year mile

and last.

It’s funny isn’t it…

How out of no where,

someone comes along and fits into every crevices of your life

So now the only thing that you fear…

Is saying goodbye.
