Tasting Preferences on Turkey Day

A Thanksgiving Day Poem

By Shanon Angermeyer NormanPublished about a year ago 1 min read
Mama always said we should set the table up real pretty.

Prepping the Dinner Table

I like broccoli and I like green beans,

but I don't like spinach or collard greens.

Pass me some creamed corn or marshmallowed yams,

but spare me the asparagus that comes from a can.

I like celery and I like gravy'd mashed potatoes,

but I don't like raw cabbage unless it's in cole slaw.

I like pinto beans, and black and red too,

but I don't like that hummus fancy goo.

Cauliflower is as nice as mushrooms can be,

apple pie a la mode is best with vanilla ice cream.

Pumpkin pie may be traditional, but I prefer the spiced latte...

Desserts can be any sweet treats especially for the holiday.

I got my egg nog ready and my wiskey shot glass;

You might go for the Wild Turkey, but I think I'll pass.

Happy Thanksgiving, Folks!

Love this poem! It perfectly captures the holiday feast in all its glory—everyone has their favorite dishes and quirks. The way you play with the foods we love (and those we could do without) makes it feel like a fun, relatable celebration. And who doesn’t appreciate a good dessert debate! Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

  • No turkey?! Haha Seriously though, this was a lot of fun to read, Shanon!
