Tanghulu

A haibun poem about true friendship, happiness, and authenticity

True friends stick together. True friends stay sweet and colourful, even in the most sour and dark moments of their lives. True friends never break down for the littlest things in life. Authenticity is staying in your place, regardless of the circumstances and issues with society. Authenticity is never breaking one’s promise. Authenticity is standing your ground, but being genuine at the same time. Happiness is taking advantage of the simplest moments with your friends, family, and yourselves. Happiness is letting yourselves swim in your own pools of emotions, without judgement and regret.

Authors note: For those of you who don’t know, tanghulu is traditional Chinese candied fruits on a stick. The meaning behind tanghulu is happiness.
