Stale air and no satisfaction Next days errands come to mind Another common house party Fails to capture my attention

I take a step outside for some fresh air Leaning on the balcony's snow ridden fence Head in the clouds blankly staring into the light polluted night sky Unprepared for our meeting to commence

" Got a light? " a bewitching stranger asks Speechless, I respond with a strike of a match In return she offers a cigarette The last of her pack

Our fingers graze as I take her offer A spark of heat enough to ignite the dead stars in the blank sky Travels and comes over me I take my first drag of our duet

Then in a flash I'm taken aback, confused Is it the nicotine making my head sing Or the tone of your voice, my god its intoxicating

I'm short of breath, my lungs are being abused Is it the smoke tightening my chest Or is it your lips taking my breath away as you tease me in jest

My heart beats so hard I can hear it in my ears, almost as if Its knocking on a door of opportunity The embers of our cigarettes fade As does our duet unfortunately

But one talk, one moment, one Malboro isn't enough As she leaves I take a deep breath I grab her arm and apologize for the lack of tact And ask

" Hey, You wanna go and split a pack?"
