Take Two
With A Shot Of Jack

Tangled elbows and tender knees
Tastes of loves sweet aftermath
Our kisses burn and only lead
To smoke and whitewashed ash
*
Desperately traipse familiar paths
Cares to the wind, with tattered maps
Wanting for more than we can have
Momentary hearts, relapsed
*
Ghosts reappear and fade away
As we deny mistakes we’ve made
Dipping our toes in muddy lakes
Thoughtlessly delve, until we wake
*
Shadows and dust, of fragile flesh
That pleasure makes
While spirits mesh
Defying fate and common sense
*
A fabled front
Unending wish
Hearts want what they want
Under false pretense
*
But, life is a dream
Time breezing past
A fleeting scene
Mere happenstance
*
And we the pawn in nature’s game
Taking a chance at fantasy
The need to know intimate plans
Enabling hope’s finalities
*
Then moving on to new romance
Defying fates and second take
In love and life’s unending dance
Like it was ever ours to make

Well-wrought! It recalls to my mind this line from The Beatles song Helter-Skelter, which is supposed to be a throwaway song about an amusement park ride, but somehow reads like a life lesson: "You may be a lover but you ain't no dancer"
This hit me so hard as it felt so close to the truth. Loved your poem!
That's beautiful, even if a little sad.
Sometimes everything tastes better with a shot of Jack. Great poem.
