Performance Poetry is poetry out loud; poems brought from the page to the stage.
The Road to Awe - Alexis Karpouzos
This morning I walked the path to awe, i met gods frustrated and angels sad. The people had abandoned them and the magic had tumbled. Now, people are orphans, wanderers across the night, frightened meteors looking for the source of awe.

Another Secret Love Poem
You reignited my chasm of a figuratively speaking dormant vessel, so before it dies out again Mulatto wanted to let you know he stalked you. He watched the way your body found comfort on chair, torques dress I would mention your waist but I'm afraid I'd get the size wrong; and we'd laugh about it then you'd tell me I'm rude and smile with peach lips and crimson rose gold checks.

An Ode to Spoken Word Poetry
“Let me build myself smaller than you. Let me apologize when I get caught acting bigger than you. Let me always wait for this, let me work for this. The convenient thing about being a magical woman is that I can be gone as quickly as I came. And when you are a whole person for the first time, the movie is over. Manic pixie dream girl doesn’t go on; there’s no need for her anymore. Manic pixie dream girl is too dream girl, and you just woke up. Once, I told you I was afraid of my father, and for a moment, I looked so human, the audience lost interest.”

Damn Fine Chicken
“damn fine chicken” she says, fumbling the book across my table. i make fun of her so smoothly that she’s caught off guard and jabs a genuine “fuck you!” at me. she instantly recovers and almost blushes with apology. i brush it off because i like it. familiarity feels good in a stranger city.
