Swallow Pride
Don’t Let the First Argument Be the Last

You think it silly
And you may be right
But let us not start that fight
For words do hurt
They can build to rage
Locking our connection in a cage
With bars welded, sunk in concrete
Imprisoned by vanity and spite
Locking us away from love’s bright light
From warm compassion
To a stone cold shoulder
From love’s embrace to refuse to hold her
An angry look
A hurtful word
A stance that says I’m absurd
Once we stared for endless hours
Lost, rapt in each other’s gaze
Now we seek US through misty haze
When you turned,
Turned your back on me
My tears I know you didn’t see
My mind seethes, vindictive thoughts
Yet my heart wants to reach out
Instead - pulling back at every shout
Our frequency got jammed
Our signals got mixed
Turn the dial and let it be fixed
Let’s push reset on this fight
Return to the last save point
To before we got bent out of joint
I have seen it said
‘Love means never having to say sorry’
Maybe in a world with sky ever starry
But, someone has to be the first
To say maybe they were wrong
First to tune back to love’s sweeter song
Before this sun shower becomes a tempest
A hurricane bound to swamp our ship
Don’t let love be destroyed by a radar blip
We have to swallow our pride
Or we’ll be swamped on a rocky shoal
Our unsinkable ship dashed, irreparably unwhole
If only we can bail together
We may both keep from being drowned
Let “I love you..I’m sorry” be the next sound
…..
Honey… I love you… I’m sorry
…..

Awww, this was so sweet. As a pathological people pleaser and a person with attachment and abandonment issues, I'm always the one to apologise first, even when I'm not wrong 😅😅
Another brilliant piece of work 🏆
This was lovely! I could really feel the poem...
How lovely thank you
