Surfing With The Holy Spirit.

The Hidden Power of Restraint.

By Cathy (Christine Acheini) Ben-Ameh.Published 6 months ago 1 min read

I thought worship was loud
Was hands high
Was voices raised
Was the echo of choruses in vaulted ceilings

But one day
He held my heart
With nothing but a whisper

Not yet
He said
Wait
Sit with Me
Be still

And so I did

I swallowed the song on my tongue
Let the silence settle
And in the stillness
I found an ocean

Vast
Wild
Holy

He was there too
Not in a rush
Not riding thunder
But barefoot on the waves

And He held my hand

We walked without words
The water steady under our feet
No fear
No fanfare
Just rhythm
And rest

The tide would rise
Then fall
And I could feel my spirit move
Like surfing
But not on boards or breakers
On breath
And obedience

Sometimes He said nothing
Sometimes He just looked at me
Like a Father who’s proud
Like a Friend who knows every storm I’ve weathered

And there, in that hush
He told me

There is power in your restraint
There is worship in your waiting
There is glory in your silence
And I receive it all

So now
Sometimes
I don’t sing

I just listen
I just follow
I just hold His hand
And ride the wave
Of wherever He’s going next

I love this so much. Every line was beautiful. But this is the line that most spoke to my soul, "Like a Friend who knows every storm I’ve weathered." That is the Christ I know.

  • A beautiful poem… it reminds me of God coming to the prophet Elijah in a still small voice, in 1 Kings 19:12.🤗
