Colored-rays from the sun
Free spirited all together as one
Rolling hills and cattails
Radiant field of sunflowers
Sound of the noon church bells
Tolling solemnly over the land
Dad, Mom along with the rest of us
Preparing for Sunday’s service
Driving down that long country road
On a Summer day, wearing our Sunday best
Thankful after the end of a long week
Anticipating a quiet day of rest
Fried chicken, collard greens, peas
Mashed potatoes, black berry pie
Later, picking mom sunflower flowers from the
Meadow near by
She loved them, a warm feeling and sigh
Basking in the sunlight rays
The essence of a Summer sunflower day
