Summer Nights

a poem

It's the summer of '09

And we're feelin' fine

Nothin' like hangin'

In the middle of the night

The fire's lit and the skies all right

Singin' our songs to the bright moonlight

But 2 AM comes fast

When you're livin' the life

That was one of those days

I'll be seein' again

Either in my life

Or in that outta-space trance

Just because our days fly by

Doesn't mean we can't stop for a night

Maybe in our high-octane lives

All we need is a little more summer nights

A/N:

I once wrote about how the first thing I ever published was a poem back in high school. For my efforts, I got, wait for it... a whopping 25 points of extra credit! May not have paid the bills, but did help compensate for me not reading most of The Scarlet Letter. I was not a good student.

A vivid portrayal of your wonderful night… great ingredients: “ In the middle of the night The fire's lit and the skies all right Singin' our songs to the bright moonlight But 2 AM comes fast”🤩

Past you struck some gold with those last two lines and such great rhyme to it! Hope the 25 extra credit points helped you pass!

Such a wonderful little rhyme, Matthew. Isn't extra credit great?

Yes!!! I wouldn't be mad if it stayed 73-78 degrees all year long. I would miss the snow but will get over it eventually. I don't snowboard anymore because my knees the next day feel like they are made of Legos, lol.

Oh man, this made me super nostalgic for those summers back in school. Summer was always this exciting, freeing time where the sky was the limit for what you could do. If I worked as a teacher I probably would feel that way still, or a job with summers off, but man, it's just not the same! Wonderful poem. <3

I could almost hear the crackle of the fire and the chorus of laughter in the dark. A beautiful reminder that even in the rush of life, we can still pause for the magic. ✨

First off this brought me back instantly to ‘those nights’ Try as we might they are gone, but new nights can be created. This was such a feel good nostalgic poem. I think you should write a story about it. Secondly love your background story….Scarlett letter, what teenage boy wants to read that?

25 extra points. Wooing with your poetry! Even back then, laddo. The young penmanship of the Fromm. This was great. Like me a Fromm poem!
