Summer Back in Saskatchewan

How the sky had reminded me of the beauty in my city.

After my year abroad, I needed a new place to love.

Compared to the hills in Salzburg, the flat

Prairie land of Saskatchewan is not enough.

Yet, our skies deny thoughts like that.

Coming to the river passing the province,

The sun and clouds always tell a new story.

Morning blue whispers strength to convince

The weekday worker to never worry.

At night, as the sun sets later than the few

Months before, the colours change to light pink

And yellow. The lullaby sings it knew

Of secret thoughts we are too scared to think.

To write poetry, picnic, and slow dance,

To give the prairie summer a new chance.
