Heaven to Hell and Back

Strength in Brenda Joyce's Voice: Heaven to Hell and Back

(Guitar riff inspired by Hotel California on a clean-toned guitar with a hint of reverb.)

(Solo vocal performance, a hint of Sade's Style, but with more driving rhythm and emphasis on the beat with a more subdued, jazzy feel, using a combination of acoustic and electric drums.)

Verse 1:

People all over the globe pray for her family,

A survivor of darkness, bound by brutality.

Cousins and her father, that bishop of shame,

At eight, a sex addiction, her life a cruel game.

(Use subtle percussion and bass to create a sense of tension and release, add in some atmospheric synth and keyboards to enhance the mood.)

Chorus:

Airing her dirty laundry, as she should,

Breaking free from the lies, misunderstood.

Her strength is a beacon, a story to tell,

A universal check, from heaven to hell.

Verse 2:

Turned to the streets, a truck stop whore,

Not for money, but for drugs, predators always craving more.

Her husband gave her HIV, a harsh fate,

Introduced by her dad, love turned to hate.

(Use subtle percussion and bass to create a sense of tension and release, and add some atmospheric synth and keyboards to enhance the mood. Add haunting vocal harmonies.)

Chorus:

Airing her dirty laundry, as she should,

Breaking free from the lies, misunderstood.

Her strength is a beacon, a story to tell,

A universal check, from heaven to hell.

(Add haunting vocal harmonies, but with a more understated, atmospheric approach, using subtle layers and textures to create depth.)

Bridge:

She found out while pregnant, her joy intertwined,

Happiness is elusive, yet love she’ll find.

Thrift stores and flea markets, but she deserves more,

Saks Fifth Avenue dreams to Nordstrom, knocking on her door.

Chorus:

Airing her dirty laundry, as she should,

Breaking free from the lies, misunderstood.

Her strength is a beacon, a story to tell,

A universal check, from heaven to hell.

Verse 3:

Her children were born free from the virus inside,

Love from her husband, a bittersweet ride.

Haunted no more, peace she’ll seek,

Three universal wishes, a future so bleak.

Chorus:

Airing her dirty laundry, as she should,

Breaking free from the lies, misunderstood.

Her strength is a beacon, a story to tell,

A universal check, from heaven to hell.

Outro:

She protects those who hurt her, yet still she stands,

A survivor’s heart, with resilient hands.

May justice find them, those who did wrong,

And grant her peace, in life’s enduring song.
