Strange Hope

An Acrostic Poem

By Gabriel HuizengaPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read
Runner-up in Moment of Silence Challenge
The sublimity of Scotland!

Sublimity rarely struts, but often

Invites, meekly, those who already seek her, to

Listen earnestly to the misty sunrise

Each morning, yearning for that which is

Never to be bought, sold, owned, or lost.

Carry with me what is weightless, and hear what is noiseless:

Ever deeper and more real, the strange hope born in nature's silence.

I love how you are playing with enjambment and using this opportunity to define a type of silence in nature, taking us somewhere distant and removed.

This is one of those poems that I begin reading, and then restart, whispering it aloud to myself so that I can fully immerse myself in the words. I absolutely love it!!

Such an entrancing piece! Beautifully woven from start to finish! I absolutely adored “Carry with me what is weightless, and hear what is noiseless” as a descriptor of that hope! This is a real gem, Gabriel!

Scotland is beautiful! I had no idea until I had walked around the lochs in Inverness, and it stunned me🤗. “Sublimity rarely struts”- how true! Something about quiet and nature seem to go hand in hand.

Oh, this is really good, Gabriel! Sublimity rarely struts is an absolutely stunning opening. And the rest of the poem follows suit right down to your final, wonderful finish! Fantastic challenge entry!
