sostenuto
words i need to hear
it is a pity
that the sky slips so silently
through dusk and day,
that you linger in sorrow
and unspoken starlight—
forgetting that there is
inexplicable beauty
in helping
and in needing help.
i hope you remember
that accepting mercy
in the breeze that carries
the watchful clouds
is healing, too,
and find solace knowing
that the heavens which have seen
all this and more
still adore the earth enough
to sustain it.
perhaps one day
you will learn the secret
of the dappled shadows
the taste of rain
and the twisting of roots in their soil;
perhaps one day
you will look yourself
in the eye and whisper
I am enough—
and mean it.
but until then,
i hope you trust
that there is love here
in this wide world—
tucked away in the
mysteries of things.
there is love enough
for you
