Soon There Will Be Buntings Out
American Independence Day will be here in a few weeks

Soon There Will Be Buntings Out
Soon there will be buntings out
strung from porch to post, no doubt
and paper stars in windows bright
and kids up past their bedtime light
Coolers packed with honest cheer
old songs rising ear to ear
someone’s uncle, telling tales
while bees hum low through butter pails
A flag or two, not loud or grand
just stitched by time and someone’s hand
waving easy in the breeze
beside the grill, beside the trees
The laughter starts before the flame
no one’s asking why they came
they bring their folding chairs and pies
and something kind behind their eyes
A sparkler writes a slow hello
against the sky’s first twilight glow
and silence settles, soft and wide,
like every heart’s been opened wide
So let the buntings catch the breeze
let shadows stretch beneath the trees
we’ll eat, we’ll laugh, we won’t explain
just celebrate this day again
The 4th of July just weeks away,
yet preparation is on the way.
To make it a wonderful celebration of Independence Day
God Bless America.🇺🇸
