We are smoke, fading slow.
Memories whisper, SHARP and CLEAR,
We are silence, laced with fear.
In rushing streams, we RUN so free,
We are droughts, just history.
Shifting sands beneath our FEET,
We are dust, a fate we meet.
Shining bright, FIERCE and BOLD,
We are shadows, growing cold.
Yesterday’s laughter, ringing TRUE,
We are tears, a fading blue.
Once the years STEAL all we’ve known,
Our stories—stories will be sown.
Unfading INK, on pages WIDE,
We are seeds, in words alive.
Timeless LOVE, UNSPOKEN, PURE,
We are feelings, hushed and sure.
Old regrets, the words UNSAID,
We are thoughts inside our head.
Over dreams too vast to HOLD,
We are wishes, shy yet bold.
Journeying HIGH, beyond the earth,
In heaven’s love, where nothing dies.

Seconds ago, the sullen sun set on the two of us… my exuberant furry companion and me. A fresh breeze embraces us, delivering welcome relief from the day’s oppressive heat. His typical stumbling and staggering along — apace with a sloth — has turned into trip-trapping, high-stepping, almost skipping along.
