Social Batteries Not Included
How to feel like you're not missing out
You can be in all the group chats
Always first to reply
Make everyone aware
How much you care and
How much you try and
Join every outing
No matter who else goes
You might become closer
Don't say no so
You're always one who knows
The inside jokes and banter
Nicknames and the like
Don't happen when you go
But the times you don't
Could be the times they might
Form and stick forever
An exclusion of your self
They don't notice
Seems fitting
But really something else
Could reduce your fomo:
A different approach
To life and friends and friendship
Unbound from your hip
Detach, rewind, step back
And remember this
Social batteries are not included
So schedule with care
Prioritise your closest
And the most fun events
You won't miss out on much
If it's with people you don't quite
Love a lot, laugh a lot with
Because, do stuff though they might
It won't be significant
To your own life.
You will feel better
Resting to recharge
Ready for the
Rarer, maybe
Shorter, maybe
Less of a 'big thing', maybe
But better for you
Can leave some group chats
Wait to reply
Your friends will know
How much you care and
How much you try
To schedule in them
Because it's all about the people
It's not the moments you'll miss
When life gets overwhelming
And you've spread yourself too thin.
And remember you don't have to
Go to everything they do
You can sit out and
They'll still have fun
Without separating from you.
A group is still a group
If not everybody shows and
Friends are still friends
If you chooses to stay home.
and if they talk about it next time
That's your chance to join in
They're trying to share it with you
Not remind you
You weren't there for it.
You will get the updates
You will get the news
One way or another
One time or another
So let's change our view
There's nothing to fear missing
If the friendship's one you trust
Trust and communication
Are definite musts.
Prioritise certain group chats
Trust others to reply
And know it's not one-way
For how much you care
And how much you try
So do they.
Social batteries aren't included
And chargers can't leave home:
What exactly would you be missing
If you didn't go?
