Smoking is Dangerouse
You light it up like it’s no big deal
a moment’s comfort in your fingers
but every drag steals breath and time
slowly pulling life away
And when it’s done you drop the stub
on cracked concrete or wet grass
no thought for dirt, no thought for fire
just flick it down like it means nothing
That little piece burns quietly
poison left behind to poison more
a careless act that stains the street
and feeds the smoke that never clears
One habit leads to many scars
not just on lungs but all around
a trail of ash and broken trust
forgotten in the wind’s cold hand
Stop pretending it’s just a smoke
when the ground drinks the fallen lies
and what you toss without a care
could burn the grass beneath your feet

Great poem! Reminds me of a moment I saw on a morning talk show (It may have actually been The Talk). They were discussing a news item in which the city of Chicago passed a law fining people up to $1,500 for tossing cigarette butts on the street. One member of the talk show said she quit smoking, but when she used to live in Chicago and smoked then, and she didn't know what she would do if she couldn't toss one out on the street, it's where they go. The rest of the panel looked at her and said, "You put them out and toss them in the trash. There are even butt receptacles in a lot of places. But there are trash cans on every block." It never occurred to her, which said it all.
My husband used to smoke, it worried me so much! I'm so happy he quit.
Facts!!! Smoking can lead to a lot of problems in both the environment and our bodies.
