Slow Mornings

The pleasures of being the first to awake

The world is quiet and just waking up

Nothing but the chirps of birds

the whoosh of early morning travelers

No noise in the house but my own thoughts

that emerge right after I awake

There's a peaceful quietness that exists

when you have the pleasure of being the first to awake

No interruptions of thoughts, no clattered rush in the kitchen

of clanking spoons and cereal bowls

or chatter from the T.V.

I bask in solitude and blissful peacefulness,

knowing it won't last long

I enjoy every second that passes by

The morning continues with a peaceful slowness,

a reminder there is no need rush

The first aroma of the day entices me

The robust smell of coffee freshly brewed

With each sip, I immerse myself in a sea of thoughts

words, ideas, stories I've been meaning to write

The world is quiet, no interruptions

New ideas form, new stories gain more words

My thoughts have a chance to emerge

I'm alone with my thoughts, diving deep into my creativity

As I take a slow sip of coffee now barely warm,

I hear the stir of the others, the chatter of voices

Another sip of coffee, another round of writing

As I savor just a few seconds more of solitude
