Sleepless Nights

The past lingers close enough to touch,

Your collection of stories propelled in time

Time being controlled by the night, moving fast and then slow and back again

The wee hours of the morning provide memories of all the "yous" left behind.

The happy you, the frozen you, the scared you, the evil you

A representation of how you're still standing today

Bad people don't exist, good people aren't real either

We're all a mixture of various levels of grey.

The people shouting the loudest "I'm one of the good ones" -

It's almost guaranteed they're not

Acceptance - of the good and the bad

Growth and learning to improve

The important skills to learn

While the melancholy videos play in your head

Reminding you of all the loss, roads less taken

The past is the past, but memories live on

Surpassing us, as our days become long gone

Take every chance, live every story

Embrace the chaos in our society, the norm

Chances not taken, are moments that are lost

And if you get lost, on your journey to yourself

Look up at the sky, the brightest star

Follow it north, it'll guide you along.

A constant reminder -

No one's ever truly alone

I grew up in Miami, which is where I became obsessed with writing. I started with poetry at 9, eventually moving towards short stories and novels.

Fun fact: At 11 I won a contest that got one of my poems published in book.
