The world calms and darkens. The hum of the long day slowly quiets as the world sleeps.
I lay here listening to the silence. Coaxing my mind to sleep. As much as I crave it, want it, need it... It still manages to evade me. The sheep betray me for I count and count and still, here I lay. Eyes wide. Mind running wild. Listening to the deafening sound of the crushing silence.
I wait.
I wait.
I wait.
Slowly time moves along.
Its maddening.
Even the sheep can't help me sleep.

Sleep evades once more. Had it ever truly been with me? How many years must I endure this sickness. The clock ticks on. The night envelopes me. The darkness driving me mad. Or am I already mad? Welcomed by the night. Welcomed to the fold of darkness. Thoughts growing as dark as the sky. The silence settles around me again. Its Maddening.
