Sirens

Misunderstood fatalities.

By TiaPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

I remove my arm from across my eyes and blink slowly into the sunlight. Laying upon the shore in bodies bare, we wait for news from the passing of tides. This place is secluded from the rest of them, those who cannot leave us alone. Salt is swirling in the air and I extend my hand to her beside me. This has always been my favorite thing, to wait here on this beach with you, my Love. I roll over to look upon her face; her skin is immaculate and shining, as dark as the earth after a storm and as smooth as water running between my fingers. Her gaze is enchanting, rouses wayward desires. She is stunning, volatile... and I love her with reckless abandon.

She smiles at me, brushing errant hair from the side of my face. Always out of sorts, you... Her voice is like sighing into the breeze, and I cannot resist but to capture her fingers in mine, pressing them to my lips, closing my eyes, breathing her in.

On the cusp of sandy shores, she always leads, and I am happy to follow, delighting in the slow way she flows over any surface. Waters lap about our feet, and I am compelled to wade in deeper, I feel that she will start calling soon.

There... they are coming. Against the setting sun, a ship undulating atop the crests of waves, cretins drifting too close. The wind will be her kind messenger. It is time someone pays for the malevolence of their ancestors, pays for the slaughter of our people. They will not be forgiven for their follies. They will submit.

Her eyes drift closed and she begins to sing, echoing on cliffs, burrowing into the sand. She did not have a voice so much as she has a sound, and when it ends, they will end with it.

There is something about the desperate cry of a brilliant woman. She remembers what they have done; when they forced her to crumple to her knees like a girl again. She was left hopeless, helpless, fraught with the desire for recompense. She will be their anguish and they will thank her for it, they will beg. Her sound is the wind itself and it fills the sails along the horizon.

The sky has darkened and her voice is hunting now, slinking away atop the choppy waters. Lies of seduction will become men's myth if we let them live. These men will be their own undoing. She sings to them a song of threats, but weakness possesses them, they willingly swim to their deaths.

Jumping over side rails, swallowing salty water... very few ever make it to us near the shore. If they do, I kill them with enchanted hands, and fangs that sink in deeply. Their eyes roll back in their heads, and they turn to syrup in my hands while she sings, my canary of death.

You are no more than a fatality

Fodder for the ocean's floor

I will drown you endlessly

As a tidal wave

My love's eyes are the gray of weighty clouds

With her sight will come the storm

Come here to me, at shores afar

My voice is quicksand

Cemented you will beg me, please

To feel her skin beneath your burdened hands

Her smile treacherous, skin bright like lightning

She steps out in the water now

Kneel before her in the sand

She will take your face in her hands

Your selfishness will be your end

Because you've felt her electric skin

And tried to take what isn't yours again

I will keep killing you

Until the sun falls into the ocean

I will drown you endlessly

Fodder for the ocean's floor

We will be the tidal wave

And your life will be no more

We watch them sink as the storm rolls in, eyes rolled back, they are men's chagrin.
