Challenge:

‘Write an acrostic poem using the word 'SILENCE.’

Note: You can read my poem as ‘stand alone.’

However, the two interlinked poems are ‘Silence 1: Black’ and ‘Silence 2: Life.’

Reading in order, ‘Silence 1: Black’ then ‘Silence 2: Life,’ will provide the transitional context.

I will provide a link at the end of each poem's flip side.

Dedication: to the SILENT epidemic of male victims of intimate partner family and domestic violence.

Silence and entrapment enforced by another

Is torture. With

Laws made

Explicit, defined by her.

Never to be shattered. Forever frightened of new

Consequences: More horrific. Will he have to

End his life to be free? [ Thought STOP! Plan. Believe. Survive. Escape.]

Hello friend. Thank you for directing me to your two acrostic poems. I applaud you for taking on the “uncomfortable” subject, and doing so without shock-value words. Through your careful choices, you illuminate the secret lives and desperation brought in by hopelessness of the silenced victims. “Silence and entrapment” carry much weight here. Well written… and now, I am heading with a hopeful heart to “Life.”
