Short Drop

It grows still, first,

then heavy.

Silence like lead,

and a fire under the skin,

burning as it spreads...

How could you have been so stupid?

Did you not plan for the worst?

Then it breaks -

a short gasp,

that turns at last to a laugh -

"oh my God are you ok?"

and the hands that help you up are kind,

no disgust in their eyes -

that was your own mind.

This can be read in so many different ways, not sure if you meant to do that but this is how I see it. A simple trip and fall - we all do that A fall into depression -always laughing it off Regardless of what happens deep down thankful someone is there to pick you up And more Excellent

What a sensory-packed 14 lines!! I read it three times and felt submerged then caught my breath by the end. Great piece!
