Shimmer

A light-hearted poem.

By Madison "Maddy" NewtonPublished 7 months ago 1 min read

Cascades of fire traverse miles of disturbed sea,

leaping through white caps,

trying to outrun the Sun.

Shimmering flecks of amber reds, glittering golds and blinding whites

spill out from the horizon,

sprinkling warm stars over the mirror between Earth and sky.

These candles flicker, twinkling embers kissed by the Sun,

shining for all to see,

until the Moon rises, changing their warm laughter

to silver whispers.

Super evocative, and a strong entry for the Challenge I think:) I particularly liked "until the Moon rises, changing their warm laughter to silver whispers." It seemed to slow the pace signal a shift in tone, just like day to night.

Silver whispers is such a beautiful line - thought this was lovely.

  • "sprinkling warm stars over the mirror between Earth and sky." I loved this line the most! Gosh your poem was soooo beautiful!
