She Takes No Prisoners
Too much for most

She hitches her breath as she sighs with relief,
She passed that obstinate hurdle with ease,
Almost too much, she saved it with her grace,
And humbled herself in an effort to please.
******
Don’t take this as weakness because she still rules the dark hours,
Runs with her wolf when the moon is full and bright,
They parry the nightmares while you and I scream in terror,
Combat a mere shoulder shrug, even in the darkness of night.
******
See her wolf’s fur stand on end when the wind blows in that scent,
The deception like static that masks the softness from the air,
Ignorance rolls towards them from one whose ego needs a clipping,
And her wolf rises to the call, deafening the quietness with its badass stare.
******
She welcomes the silence that was forced upon her, no bid goodnight,
And laughs at the thought this was an attempt to crack her hardened heart,
Those days are behind her, she’s now the strength some foreclose,
Take her or leave her, she’ll not give a shit at that part.
******
She wraps her fists deep within her wolf’s fur and purrs,
Guided to become her best, she’s now the leader of the pack,
Beware of her scorn, you’ll not want to attract her ire,
Because you’ll soon be history if she ever becomes serious in her attack.
******
They climb the rocky mountain and stand tall for the world to eye,
She runs with her pack-hounds through the trees teeming with rain,
Her laughter echoes off the cliff face and rebounds to a whisper of terror,
Hide, my friend, hide, she’s naught but a world of great pain.
******
I stand hidden from view and watch the pair, silenced within my awe,
Stunned when she leans close to her wolf’s ear and whispers in glee,
“Who disturbs my equilibrium thinking he’s the better man, trying to push me to his will?
An ant on the arse of society, not worth my time, chase him down my dear wolf and I’ll watch him flee.”
******
With those words she calmly folds her arms and waits,
The wolf by her side sticks his nose in the air for a single sniff,
Then dashes down the hill on the trail of the one he plans to annihilate,
Minutes pass by before she hears a terrified scream from the other side of the cliff.
******
Within seconds the cry is cut off and once more the silence reigns,
That smile that graces her face sends shivers down my spine,
What a woman! What a life she must have led until forced to rise and stand tall,
I silently watch in delight, deeply wishing her brutal strength was all mine.
About the Creator

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Back to say congrats on your Top Story 🎉
Congratulations on your Top Story 🎉🎊🎉 A poem within a story, or a story within a poem. This was well executed, I love the fantasy, adventure type element to it. I like the lines in the speech marks. Overall it reads as though the person is looking at their future self. Maybe a version of themselves on some days, then towards the end it seems like today is an off day and they can’t hone in on that strength just yet. But it’s there, buried below the surface. I really enjoyed reading this 👌🏽♥️👏🏽🎉🎊🤗
She's such a fierce badass! Loved your poem!
I love the fierce energy of this piece! It’s like a celebration of raw power, both in her and her wolf. Total badassery!
Nicely done poetic story. 😊
