She's nowhere near.

I had a dream

*PLEASE LISTEN TO THE SOUND WHILE YOU READ MY STORY ;)*

~

Last night, I had a beautiful dream. The air was thicker than usual, and I was holding onto something that was never there.

The waves whispered secrets, the sun was humming through the ocean's bliss. The horizon seemed to blur, and the sea trembled like a mirage.

The wind howled in a language the living could not understand.

The wind attempted to whisper, but this time, there was no echo. Only silence.

The breeze would shimmer with silver dust, like the last remnants of forgotten dreams.

Forgotten memories~

I remember when I used to think you were some sort of stray cat, living life free and full of pride—but I only later discovered the wound in your heart.

At that time I didn't really think about it, I didn't think about how deep the hurt was inside of you.

I watched you disappear into the sky, growing smaller and smaller.

I try not to regret anything.

Everything around me would fade. The world couldn't stand still for a moment—there was no delicate balance.

I can't always get what I want—

Now when I look back at it, we don't cherish the present moments, you appreciate them after something is missing—something that usually fills that void.

The dream is both a gift and a wound. I can hear her speak, but each word carrying a weight I cannot bear, yet long to hear.

Two girls, two friends, ran side by side.

"Come on, Kodah!"

"I'm coming!"

I touch her shoulder.

"Why did you have to leave me in a world where I couldn't defend myself."

"I'm sorry Kodah, it's not your fault I'm dead."

Every day seems to be a new beginning without you, and yet nothing ever changes.

When I woke up from my wildest dreams,

I realise she was nowhere near~

The dream was a bridge to a place I could never reach. In the deepest corners of my soul, I carry her still — alive in the spaces of my desire.

Her presence is more real than the reality I now face.

Happy All Souls Day , this piece serve as a reminder in dreams remember the ones we love and recreate time with them once again.

  • What a beautiful, beautiful poem with much depth, soul, and intricacies. Your choice of music scores your poems so perfectly. I have a few albums by Beachouse on CD, they’re one of my favorites. Exceptional writing, Kodah.

This is such remarkable writing, well-deserving of the Top Story badge. Congrats! I loved how you described the wind as both howling and whispering, giving it almost a desperate edge. There was a painful relatability to this. Beautifully done!

Wow, this feels like a dream that’s both sweet and sad. The way you captured that feeling of missing someone, but also feeling them alive in your heart, is really powerful. It’s like a reminder that some bonds stay with us, even when we can’t touch them anymore. 🥺 Kind of beautiful, kind of heartbreaking!💖
